No Identity Crisis Here
From my side bar you can tell that Toby Logsdon, founder and Bible Teacher of Biblestudypodcasts.org is my Son-in -Love. But I want you to know how very proud and honored I am to call him SON.
It fills my heart with JOY to hear him preach and teach God's TRUTH from his wealth of wisdom and understanding of the BIBLE.
Fifty some years ago...my own father began his first pastorate in a small Kansas town. It blesses my soul, that more than a generation later...I am experiencing Toby, together with my daughter, and their two children continuing this spiritual heritage that I was born into. I was 5 days old when the family made the move from Kansas to Oklahoma for dad to go to college so he could step into God's calling on his life.
Years before Dad's calling...my great great uncle "Ulysses Grant" T. was a 'circuit rider' preacher.... :) Yeah, he rode a horse to the distant parishes throughout the land. Is that just way cool :) I'm told he was a 'power packed' preacher...and blessed with a spiritual confidence that facilitated the Holy Spirit's work of opening wide the hearts of men.
Dad tells the story of 2 men marching into the church one Sunday as Ulysses was preparing to preach...they had a rope...intending to hang him! Ulysses dared anyone to step one foot on the platform where he was standing. He said.... "the Lord will strike you dead!" The church fell silent, as the two men turned and walked right out of the front door, that they had just came through - dragging their rope behind them! (dragging their tails behind them :) - Ulysses knew that as a christian he was the HEAD and not the TAIL :)
"If you listen to these commands of the LORD your God and carefully obey them, the LORD will make you the head and not the tail, and you will always have the upper hand. " Deu 28:13
I have inherited my great-great uncle Ulysses' old black leather satchel packed full of neatly organized handwritten sermons - some typed - but all organized and easily read....what a treasured heritage!
Is it any wonder why I too have come to know this Jesus as my Lord and KING? This wealth of spiritual HERITAGE became my personal INHERITANCE when I stepped into my calling as daughter of the Most High King....and now Warrior Bride of My Beloved King!
Tomorrow, Feb 6 - My Son-in-Love, Toby, will deliver his 2nd sermon as the new senior pastor of Lynnwood Evangelical Free Church in Lynnwood WA . His first sermon was heard by a full house, I'm told - regular attendees as well as new people and people that hadn't come in a while. The congregation is excited to have a full time pastor again. And Toby and the family are just as eager to join them.
I'm linking to his first sermon "The Identity Factor: Who Am I?" for anyone interested. Toby's message comes from Matthew 16:13-18 - as he shares how our identity changes when we recognize and respond to Jesus' identity.
When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?" "Well," they replied, "some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say Jeremiah or one of the other prophets." Then he asked them, "Who do you say I am?" Simon Peter answered, "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God." Jesus replied, "You are blessed, Simon son of John, because my Father in heaven has revealed this to you. You did not learn this from any human being. Now I say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it." Matt 16:13-18 NLT
You can find Toby's future sermons at www.Lynnwoodefc.org
Who do you say that you are?
And are you really who you say you are?
A whole world is watching and reading our open book.....what do they see?
We are a reflection of what lies beneath the skin...
Do we reflect JESUS?
Does His Glory shine from within our body, mind, and spirit?
Do we light up the darkness when we walk into a room - just by His Presence in us?
Who do YOU say that you are?
NO IDENTITY CRISIS HERE!
I AM HIS AND HE IS MINE,

Hi Patricia -
ReplyDeleteI was elated to hear from you. I have been coming here regularly to see if there was a new post.
When I saw your comment on my blog, my eyes lit up! I rushed over here.
It is understandable that you had priorities...but I sure am glad that our Lord put you on to blog today!
Great news about your son-in-law and his family. I am going to make a note to listen.
Wow! praise GOD that your father was a pastor.
I love this that you expressed, "Do we light up the darkness when we walk into a room -just by His Presence in us?"
Yes, Patrina, it is so important that we DO the Word...
Note: When you get some free moments, please read my post titled, "CIRCUS CHANGE" that was posted yesterday. It is just below what you read today.
As for the continuation of today's post, I will have it on within about three days, I expect...unless our Lord indicates otherwise.
Thank you, Patrina, for your consideration.
Now I am going to go answer your comment on my blog.
Oh! Patrina - please forgive me - I noticed too late that I greeted you in my earlier comment here as Patricia. Earlier I had e-mailed my friend Patricia and I mistakenly typed her name in my greeting to you here earlier.
ReplyDeleteNotice, though, later in my comment to you, I did use your correct name.
I'm so sorry for the error, PATRINA!
Sandra
ReplyDeleteThanks for continuing to check with me for a new post! Wow... :) that encourages me.... That someone misses me when I'm not blogging. Thank you for that sharing. And 'no worries' about the name change...I've been called Patricia a time or 2 before :)
Thanks for the note on 'circus change'...try to check it out soon
hugs,
Patrina
Awesome!!! Let me go listen to the message...God be praised...
ReplyDeleteSo glad you have time to put up a post...
Rita,
ReplyDeleteMy heart is always thrilled to hear from you, my dear Nigerian soul sister :)
I'm just so ecstatic at what the Lord is doing in their lives...So filled with Joy...it just had to be shared. I can hardly wait to join them in ministry there.
I am one proud mama!
Hugs,
Blessings to you and Mr Rita :)

ReplyDeleteWHO AM I?...very simple..A SACRED POSSESSION to GOD our Father:)
Kareem,
ReplyDeleteI wasn't sure who you were...ha ha you didn't look like yourself and you changed your profile name.... so nice to be in touch with you again. You are indeed His Sacred Possession. You are His and He is Yours!
Hugs, Patrina <")>><
Good morning, Patrina! Thank you for commenting on my blog. I love your passion for the Lord! I look forward to visiting your blog often. God bless.

ReplyDeletenew posts, Patrina. I know
you will always have a good
Holy Spirit filled word to

son-in-law in his new pastorate.
Shalom,
Sandy
I really enjoyed the message...it also surrounds a scripture i have wanted to know more about in recent times (the part from Matthew).
ReplyDeleteAmen Patrina!! O, how I love to hear the indescribable of wealth that has been passed down through your famiy lineage, as you continue the legacy by the power of the Holy Spirit in your life! I loved reading this post...this humbling 'pride' (if there's such a thing) rose up on the inside as I read, knowing to Whom I belong to. Hallelujah!!!
ReplyDeleteSandy,
ReplyDeleteOh thank you for your sweet comment. I'm so glad you hear my genuine voice in my posts. I'm blessed to have such a wealth of christian neighbors around me here on the bridge and in the surrounding neighborhood. Thanks for visiting. I'll meet you soon over at your place :)
God bless you dear

Love you girl
Patrina <")>><
Teresa,
ReplyDeleteYou 'get it'! Yes, such a wealth of spiritual heritage I've been born into... and I pray that my 'humble pride' is reflective of my pure JOY that comes from KNOWING my identity in Christ. Hallelujah!!! is right! Your JOY transferred through your comment.

patrina <")>><
What an enjoyable post. I hardly know where to start with my comments!!
ReplyDeleteI just love that you inherited all those sermons from Ulysses! Patrina, maybe you could print some excerpts from them sometime!
Congrats to Toby - it sounds like his church is VERY fortunate to have him. He will be a blessing.
Who am I? I think that at this point in my life, I am more "me" than I've ever been - because I am following hard after Jesus - and finding my identity in my risen Lord.
I want to decrease, so He can increase!
Thanks for this, Patrina - I stand and say with Peter, "You are the Messiah, the Son of Living God." And in Him, I have found my true self.
GOD BLESS!
I am SO GLAD to see you back Patrina! :)
ReplyDeleteAnd as usual, so much to digest in your words tonight.
Evangelical Free Church... that brings back a host of memories. My dad preached at so many E.V.Free churches as we grew up!
I hope you are all settled in, and I know it's a joy to have your pastor right in your family. We have one of those too, and we are blessed.
How is your dad doing? I assume he made the move okay.
I'm just happy to 'see' you again!
Sharon... my 'cowgirl' buddy :)
ReplyDeleteI loved your last lines:
"I stand and say with Peter, "You are the Messiah, the Son of Living God." And in Him, I have found my true self."
Me too...in Him I stand! I am who I am because of HIM in me!
hugs to you, cowgirl - your profile icon makes me feel at home. I have 5 cowgirls hats and 7 pairs of cowgirl boots - used to have 9 - but I have completely worn two pair out! Most of the others are getting to that point too. I used to wear them everyday - even to work :)
Patrina <")>><
Sonja
ReplyDeleteThanks for your warm welcome back. It tickled my heart strings to see your face :)
But I am far from 'settled'. I am still in AR. - without my kids - in my now empty house - awaiting all the paperwork and red tape to move dad to LTC. He is still with me. I had hoped it would be a quicker turn around - I may be in this situation til spring....
But I know that spring is coming and so I continue to face each new day with the HOPE of a new season.
God is good - He is faithful - He is my strength - my JOY - my song.
So good to connect with you tonight - stay warm! It's cold in AR too.
Patrina <")>><
Good news in deed! Good to know that your Son-in-Love is keeping the family tradition!
ReplyDeleteI AM A UNIQUE CREATION OF THE MOST HIGH GOD!
Remain Blessed!
Hi Patrina,
ReplyDeleteWanted to stop by and thank you for your uplifting and encouraging comments on my blog - God Bless - Nita
Greetings dear Patrina,
ReplyDeleteA few days you came and visited my blog, thank you for having done so.
I was delighted by reading of your family and its history, especially your son, of whom I know you are very proud, as he walks in the footsteps of your father. As parents all we can do is give our children a good education and guidance and hope that they make the right decisions along the way. It seems your son has.
My presence on the Internet has been limited indeed. After completing cardiovascular rehab, I returned fie weeks later for another extended stay, which ended in mid-December. Now I am hoping to refocus my activities that have lain abandoned all last year, along with duties around the house.
I have had a different kind of Internet presence since September of last year, focusing my attentions on my feline companion of seventeen years, as I created a blog just for her. You can reach it by clicking n her picture on my blog if you like.
Thank you Patrina for thinking of me and for those very special words and prayers of yours. You are indeed a precious person.
My your path be always be safe and filled with sunshine,
Egmont
Hi there woman!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that you stopped by my horsey place...you always lift up the heart!
OH!! How totally cool that your son in love is preaching there!! I am so going to listen every week. I love this!
See ya sooon!
KK
"...and now Warrior Bride of My Beloved King!"
ReplyDeleteI have never called myself His warrior bride but i daresay that is who i am.
I love the end. I have got no identity crisis, i know who i am.
I am happy your son in law is the head pastor of the church. I love your life too. It is awesome being one who gives truth so that the destinies of people can be changed for the better as they meet Christ through you.
God bless!
PS I appreciate your friendship.
Hugs my friend. Enjoy the whirlwind!
ReplyDeleteA fabulous tribute to your Son - I know that the Lord will use him mightily for His kingdom.
ReplyDeleteLove to you!
Dee,
ReplyDeleteYou are INDEED a unique creation of the MOST HIGH GOD!
Your response on your blog to my comment made me smile real big! haha -
"Patrina, my big sister from another country!"
Still smiling....
who would have thot that I have a 'little sister' who lives in Nigeria :) that is truly a heart warming statement for me - thank you - I am one blessed "pencil"....haha. As sisters in Christ, your statement shouldn't surprise me - but it did!
hugs to you, friend
Patrina <")>><
Nita
ReplyDeleteSo glad that I could bless you with encouragement. I am still praying for you and Martin...BE ENCOURAGED by the Lord today. :)
Hugs,
Patrina <")>><
Dear Egmont
ReplyDeleteAlways nice to see and feel your presence on the bridge. I know you do not blog often - I don't so much any more either - but I am pleased to know that you are going to walk into LIFE in a different way this season. I am praying for your health and your peaceful presence to continue on the web. You are missed.
I will visit your feline companion soon :)
thank you for your prayers in my and my father's behalf as well.
Peace to you my friend,
Patrina <")>><
KK - Woman!
ReplyDeleteFunny that you would call me woman - that is what I started with my women Friends - when I was back in my beloved CO. It just became the given name for each of us as we lived and shared our lives. It made me smile to be called woman - again :)
I do hope you give Toby a listen. It would bless my heart to know you have heard him preach. He's quite funny in his delivery - very relaxed. God is growing him into His humble servant -
You bless me with your sister relationship - I just love it that you two are so close and how you truly enjoy each other's company!...and horses :)
Love you WOMAN!!
Patrina <")>><
Tisha dear FRIEND
ReplyDeleteawww - I appreciate your friendship too - all the way from Nigeria! I just love my Nigerian buddies!!!
I call myself 'warrior bride' because I am dressed and ready to meet Him - my bridegroom - my beloved! 'Warrior' because I fight the good fight with Him in His end-time army! He is my commander and chief! I wear boots cause frankly - I do wear cowgirl boots! But I'm in combat for the lost and troubled souls that He brings into my territory... for intercessory prayer. I am a prayer warrior!
When a fellow blogger called me a 'princess warrior' - it sounded right on!
But it quickly evolved to 'warrior bride in boots' because of all the warrior princess icons I found when I did a web search for such. All of them were of sexy - sensual young chics wielding a huge sword!
That just wasn't me - In no way shape or form - was that me :) In fact, I didn't even want to be associated with that term anymore - that's when the Lord gave me the new name 'warrior bride in boots'.
I'm not married yet - He's not come for me yet. But I am His bride in waiting! Yes I am!
So, I am glad that I have helped you see yourself as a bit more mature than a 'princess bride'.
We no longer are satisfied with mere milk! I crave more meat!
Glad to help you see who you are in Christ - at this stage of your developement with HIM.
So...My dear Tisha - warrior bride of the Beloved KING!!! Take your rightful place and stand ready and TRUE!
God bless you, friend
Patrina <")>><
my sweet Deb,
ReplyDeleteI have missed you! It has been so much fun to reconnect with all my blogging buddies this month! a huge blessing indeed.
Actually, I'm not so much in a whirlwind as I was in Jan. The kids have left and things are sort of at a stand still awaiting the next step. Pray that the turn around is completed soon. I am so ready for my next season! BRING it ON! :)
The 2 feet of snow today was kind of a whirlwind though... Lots of bird pictures... can't find my car yet - except for the side view mirror peeking out of the blanket of white.
awwww...the joy of it all - much snow to shovel in the next few days :)
love you, my friend
Patrina <")>><

ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your visit to the bridge and for your follow. I see your sweet comments every where I go - nice that we finally connect on each others blogs.
Blessings to you and your new 'growing' Life - soon to call you nana.
Shalom - may His face shine upon you and give upon you and fill your heart with His peace.

I found your link through Sandra's Lions Share Majesty. What you wrote about the transformation of a butterfly was amazing. I did not realise that happened either and it was a revelation! I have added you on my blog page to the blogs I follow and look forward to seeing what God shares through you.
ReplyDeleteGod is using Toby in a mighty way! I can't wait for you to join them there!
ReplyDeleteChoosing JOY in this season,
Stephanie
How exciting to:
ReplyDelete1. Have such a Godly heritage woven into your family tree
2. See that heritage passed on to the next generation
3. Have your loved ones close by, to enjoy them in this season of life.
I sense your excitement through your pen. I hope to have some time to listen in in coming days.
Blessings, sister, and thanks for that great quote you left at my blog.
peace~elaine
Appreciate you and your words. You are an encouragement. Blessings.
ReplyDeleteHi Patrina -
ReplyDeleteI posted a piece today that may interest you, and a quiz on the SEPARATE TAB titled, "7 UPS QUIZUPS" - on my blog LIONS SHARE MAJESTY.
Running the race as God's Olympians video at the bottom of your blog ignited the fire already within me! Wow! Thank you for sharing that video!!!! Praise God! Thank you again for coming by to visit, you are such an encourger...and I really love your fervent passion for our God...it is so beautifully revealed for the glory of God!
ReplyDeletePatrina,
ReplyDeleteHow proud you must be of Toby. And rightly so.
You have a great spiritual heritage... flowing down your spiritual bloodline.
What your great grandfather, and your own father have done, have impacted the generations after them, down to your very own grandchildren.
Every choice we make has an impact for eternity.
This post is such a blessing, Patrina.
Love
Lidj
Oh, I love that - "No identity crisis here."
ReplyDeleteThat scripture is one of many in the daily declarations I make in Jesus name..."I am the head and not the tail."
How proud you must be of your 'son.' Are you still considering moving there?
Cyndi,
ReplyDeleteI see that you are a new blogger - not just new to the bridge. So Welcome! hope to see you around the neighborhood often. Looking forward to reading more of your story.
Thank you so much for visiting me and picking up the pencil to comment here.

ReplyDeleteAwww yes! I can't wait either....I cover them and the church in prayer every day. I listen to Toby's sermon as soon as I see that it is uploaded to the church's site. I'm most definitely there in spirit :) In God's time...I will be there in body as well.
Hugs to you on this valentines day
Patrina <")>><
Elaine,
ReplyDeleteYes...it is a great spiritual heritage - a legacy of chosen warriors for our Lord's Kingdom. As you can see by my comments here, I am not with them just yet - but the time will come. This season is almost over. Springtime and harvest is - just around the corner. I am so eager to be a true laborer in ministry with my children.
Blessings to you, dear one on this valentines day. Stay connected!
hugs, Patrina <")>><
JBR
ReplyDeleteoh my dear soul,
I have been praying words of encouragement over you daily - when the Lord brings you to mind. I know that He has a beautiful plan for your life. Never give up! We are in battle - but the battle is the Lords.
praying God's TRUTH over you!
hugs,
Patrina <")>><
Teresa,
ReplyDeleteHey, thanks for your enthusiasm over that video! It did the same for me when I watched it on Lidj's blog. I just had to have it at my fingertips! as a reminder. IT IS POWER PACKED for sure.
I'm behind on your story, but hope to catch up soon. Read some chapters but haven't commented.
I am blessed by your heart of gold - your vulnerable way of sharing - it is a good thing!
hugs
Patrina <")>><
Lidj, my dear friend in the Philippines...
ReplyDeleteI love following your journey to wellness....
Yes yes! every choice we make impacts another generation for eternity.
I liked it that you said this spiritual heritage - has followed the bloodline - to my own grandchildren. OHhhhh yes! I do have two grandchildren influenced by this ministry - don't I? Hard as it was to be raised in a preacher's family, I am definitely standing my post in a prayer covering....but I know the richness of the experience - for years to come - for my two grand children that find themselves PK's - like their granny before them. haha.
Rich indeed. This granny has their trust... they will be OK. They can talk to me about anything. I'll be there for them.
Happy valentine day, dear Lidj

ReplyDeleteYes Yes! I have been given the orders by the commander in Chief of the Heavenly army... to join my family in ministry in Lynnwood ...when the time is right.
Still have dad with me - Still in AR without my kids :( but I know that springtime is coming. A new day is dawning - I've got my boots on and I'm ready to set out for the path straight ahead of me
- GO NORTH - the Lord said ...you've gone around this mountain for the last time!...see where I am working...and join me there!
So Yes....this season is almost over... I'm ready for the change - bring it on!
Hus, Deborah and thanks so much for your prayers and your thots concerning this matter
Love to you on valentines day
Patrina <")>><
Sally,
ReplyDeleteSince you don't have a site that I can visit you on and you haven't left your written footprint on the bridge - I just want to take a moment here in my comments - to welcome you to the neighborhood and particularly to the Bridge and patrina's pencil.

I pray that I light up the darkness in rooms:) great post.
ReplyDeleteWow. Lynnwood is just a 50 minute trek from my home in Puyallup.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful treasure, that Bible chocked full of notes. I hope one day one of my children, or grandchildren, will pick up mine and feel the same way. It truly is the richest legacy we can leave in our passing: The love of God and His word.
Blessings,
Kathleen
awesome blog, it is amazing how the body of Christ is often guilty of having the largest number of identity crisis's. I am so glad God is raising up people who know who they are in Him and can help folks find their identity and walk in it!
ReplyDeletelove how proud you are of your family. I didn't have the family that was in my corner...but working to change that by being what my kids need...and always being in their corner and proud of them. ☺

ReplyDeleteYou light up the room with just your SMILE :) Beautiful smile. I also know how you've shone the LIGHT into my heart's door with your writing. Thank you, dear for your visit and your smile.

ReplyDeleteYep, I see you on the map. Maybe we can actually meet each other when I finally get to where I'm planning on going. haha. Life changes so fast. One never knows what the next step will actually be until they are there.
I have a box of Family Bibles that I've inherited. Great grandpas - and grandmas - as well as several that my dad used from the pulpit and my mama's. Dad always said that you can tell more about a man from his Bible than from any thing else.
When he prepared for a funeral, he always asked to see the person's Bible.
Blessings to you, Kathleen

ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting and thanks for the compliment on my page here.
The 'Body' of Christ has lost their identity 'in the church' - rather than body 'in Jesus Christ'. We are the church - we are His ministry tool - we are His hands and feet - His mouth piece - His heart. As Toby says in this sermon - we don't GO to church - we ARE the church!
Love your passion

ReplyDeleteYES! YES! On the other side of today...in GLORYland, we will for sure exchange Hugs for the Joy of knowing the ONE who holds my pencil and your camera...in the palm of His strong right hand.
Thank you for your voice today! Thank you for allowing God to use your words to speak to me. It brought a tear... a smile...a needed lift... an answer to a pressing decision. God used you today - of all days - to write His answer.
He is always looking for an open heart - to cooperate with His plan - His way - and in His time.
Again... God continue to bless you, your family ... and your/HIS camera,Steve.

Dear Patrina ~ Thank you for sweetly stopping by and visiting me at *my place* and for your encouraging words...and for your prayers! What a blessing it is to be part of the family of God! HE is wonderful!! How precious this post is!! I *love* that you have a travelling preacher in your heritage and that you have his notes and sermons and Bible!! Treasures to be sure! What a blessing it is that your family is rich in their Christian heritage...how precious to see your grandchildren being raised to know and love the LORD Jesus Christ! I am so happy for you.
ReplyDeleteIn His Love,
Camille
Dear Patrina,
ReplyDeleteThough I had previously commented her before, it seems I was drawn back to this post as I was looking through your site. I guess it was meant to be.
As I read it once again I wish now to reflect upon a treasure that you hold in your hands, the handwritten and typed sermons from Ulysses Grant.
Since you have read 'Family Secrets' you know the value I place on family, our connection to the past and the importance to keep alive the history of ones heritage and with these papers and the satchel you have indeed a tangible link. A link that is real for your children and your children's children. This is most precious and I know you will keep it pristine and safe so that it can be handed down generations after generations, along with the story of the two men and the rope.
Thank you for your presence and continued support.
I wish you all the best,
Egmont
Awww, Egmont,
ReplyDeleteAlways nice to have you visit. You're kind words in your comment at your place, touched me deeply :)
YES YES! You bet I will keep it dear to my heart. Some have suggested that I donate it to the museum in the small town where he retired in KS. Maybe someday. But for now. I have a treasure beyond words - and it will remain a treasured possession.
thank you again for taking the time to visit and let me know that you were here.
Blessings
