'Beyond any human being I’ve met'
Sitting down at my computer to write a new post, Google stares back at me, as I attempt to sign in. This is largely how I hear what has already traveled the world. News to me ... is old news to the everyone else. I'm not connected to TV, news-feeds, Facebook or all those social outlets and connecting apps. I choose not to.
I was immediately drawn to the human interest story of Maya Hughes and Tom Perriello - past Congressman and current executive director of the Open Society Foundations’ U.S. Programs. Just in case you haven't heard... I'll place a link to the story at the end.
15 years ago... our country was in a different place. This story wouldn't have even had the technology to go viral as it has today. But beyond that, we lived in a safer place. Today, Tom's fears of then being accused of sex trafficking... traveling with a 5 yr old stranger... without any documentation... would have caused more than a slight delay.
Sex - trafficking is so understated. It happens so innocently... so easily. I just want to say that for me, Tom Perriello has earned the badge of
TRUSTWORTHINESS
with children.
In today's world... that's a special badge. It comes with great responsibility. I am convinced that he will wear the badge honorably and courageously, and for a life-time.
THANK YOU TOM!
It is more than just a coincidence...that this story unfolded the way it did. It was designed that way. All parties were positioned at the right place at the right time... for this life story to be shared... 15 years later. There is a reason why God chose Tom Perriello to be Maya's guardian angel. There is a reason why Tom agreed. Tom may not know why... even now, but he will. It wasn't so that we could hear about it 15 yeras later.
I'm Praying God's Continued Will in Your Life, Tom. You're now more than a face, more than a name, more than a career, more than man. You're a family Hero. Heroes have a story. A hero's story changes how they are seen by a viewing audience. Your platform, Tom, just got larger.
In a world where our children are bombarded with so many choices for 'heroes' ...they don't even know the true meaning of the word. Hero to them means someone to idolize, or imitate, or own.
A true Hero is to be admired for their nobal qualities... courageous stand or acomplisments. Respectful and tender behavior towards children and humanity in general. They posses a deep core value that enables them to look beyond themselves for the good of others.
Tom Perriello, Maya's personal hero and guardian angel 15 years ago... missed his own grandmother's funeral... to fulfill his promise to her mother - making certain that 5 year old Maya was reunited with her own grandmother.
That's a HERO!
A Hero that represents FAMILY
God’s Message:
“Don’t let the wise brag of their wisdom.
Don’t let heroes brag of their exploits.
Don’t let the rich brag of their riches.
If you brag, brag of this and this only:
That you understand and know me.
I’m God, and I act in loyal love.
I do what’s right and set things right and fair,
and delight in those who do the same things.
These are my trademarks.”
God’s Decree.

Jer 9: 23-24 MSG
I will check up on Tom from time to time, to see if God has revealed His plans for that seemingly strange meeting...in that airport scenario ...so many years ago.
This story reminds me of Tim Taylor's planted seed. Specifically planted in the right place...for the right person to find... 40 years later. You can read that post from 2012 HERE

Hi Patrina,
ReplyDeletethis is a lovely story about Tom, especially as he missed his grandmother's funeral because of the kindness he showed to a child.
Hope you have had a nice time over the Christmas period.
New Year Greetings and continued blessings, Brenda. looking forward to a new year.

Very brave of him, although the whole thought of it makes me feel a bit queasy.
ReplyDeleteDavid. Blessings for the New Year.
Deleteyes, in today's world...queasy is right. I'd have to have a strong nudging from the Holy Spirit..even then, it wouldn't come without a lot of questions and 'what if's'.
However, just this morning I was reminded of the Scripture found in Heb 13:2
"Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares."
